Recently, I entered a contest that was sponsored by GelaSkins, a website that provides really cool artsy laptop and mobile device stick-on skins by designers and artists. I was really excited to participate because I had contemplated buying a shiny, new iPad (3) but couldn’t rationalize tottering over to the cool side of the fence. So when I saw that Bloggers in Sin City (BiSC), “the ultimate blogging experience”, was holding a contest to win a $100 Gelaskins gift card, I jumped at the chance to throw my name in the figurative hat. I also decided that if I won, I would buy an iPad!
As luck has it, I WON. I rarely win anything so the feeling was incredible. I learned via twitter, and promptly made my acceptance speech.
After the shock wore off, I immediately made my way to the Apple store Knox-Henderson and treated myself to a new iPad. I love it, by the way. It’s fun to blog on and typing on it feels like a modern-day typewriter. I just need a stylus in my mouth to completely pay homage to outdated technology. I feel like a modern writer with my iPad. Mmm, pretentiousness.
I received the $100 gift card right and bought my skins right before BiSC and found them waiting for me on my doorstep when I returned almost a week afterwards.* I swiftly opened the package and found the “Digitalis” and “Echos” skins designed by the incredible Andy Gilmore I bought for my new iPad and 4th generation iPod Touch, respectively.
People looked at me with the greenest of jealousies with my naked iPad. But now they exhibit a most colorful and prismic spectrum of jealousies with my Gelaskinned coolness.
* Yeah, it was really strange ’cause it seems like someone opened the package, or the heat unstuck the lid of the envelope, and thus rolly-pollies were stuck to the sticky adhesive. *shudders* but it was really cool!
